English 3/2 Hornpipes

In this workshop, you will learn a traditional English 3/2 hornpipe and explore its rhythmic and melodic variations.
For fiddle players with at least intermediate instrument skills.
Workshops can be booked only per day.

Grace Smith
Grace Smith is a leading light in the revival of English fiddle music and passionate educator, deeply rooted in the tradition. She weaves together a deep respect for archive melodies with fresh, modern interpretations.
As a performer, she is best known for leading the Grace Smith Trio. Their debut album Overleaf (2023) earned strong reviews — Folk Radio UK hailed them as “the exciting future of instrumental folk music”. Grace also plays in the French-inspired dance band Cri du Canard and in a new duo with Sam Sweeney.
As an educator, Grace is highly regarded for her work with learners of all ages, teaching for institutions and programs such as the National Youth Folk Ensemble, Newcastle University and the North East Fiddle School. She is the current Musical Director for the Folkworks Summer Schools in England.
She holds a PGCEi in Group Instrumental Teaching from Music Masters, as well as a MMus (Distinction) and BMus (First Class Honours) in Folk & Traditional Music from Newcastle University. Grace’s work – both as a performer and a teacher – is defined by her commitment to preserving tradition while pushing its boundaries, making her a compelling and inspiring figure in the contemporary folk scene.
