Workshop 1 Playing folk music on the cello
This workshop offers advanced tips and techniques for playing melodies with stylistic fluency and for creating inventive, groovy accompaniments on the cello.
Workshop 2 Klezmer Ensemble
The focus of this workshop will be on switching between melody and accompaniment. Learn a tune and how to move between melody and accompaniment in creative yet traditional ways. In Klezmer, the accompaniment can be as varied and important as the melody if you know how to groove and work within the harmonic and melodic code of the tune. We will explore various possibilities including breaking down the tune, chordal and one-note accompaniment patterns and focus on phrasing to really harness the potential of the Klezmer style. This workshop is open to all instruments.
For cello players with at least intermediate instrument skills. The ‘Klezmer Ensemble’ is open for all instruments.
Workshops can be booked per day. You’re welcome to join multiple sessions with the same teacher, but it’s not required. Each day is independent, so you can mix and match freely.

Francesca Ter-Berg
Francesca Ter-Berg is a cellist and composer known for her expansive style which blends Klezmer, improvisation and electronic synthesis. Her debut EP ‘ In Eynem’ was released on the Phantom Limb Label Spirituals imprint (Best Experimental Music on Bandcamp + Quietus Best Releases of 2021) and latest ambient release Sunshine Diaries was Pick of the Week on BBC Radio 4. Her critically acclaimed experimental-folk duo Fran & Flora with violinist Flora Curzon released their 2nd self-produced studio album Precious Collection in April 2024 on Hidden Notes Records (The Guardian Top 10 Folk Albums of 2024, “Border-defying” – Mojo).
Francesca performs with a multitude of artists and bands across different genres, she teaches at Klezmer festivals globally including KlezMore Vienna, KlezFest London, Yiddish New York, Yiddish Summer Weimar has performed live at the EFG London Jazz Festival, WOMAD, Kings Place, Glastonbury Festival, Cafe Oto, Cadogan Hall & the Royal Festival Hall.
