Hartwin Trio

Hartwin is a Belgian diatonic accordionist and composer whose evocative melodies have been captivating audiences worldwide. Known for their simplicity and melancholy, his tunes leave plenty of room for the listener’s imagination. With Flavia Escartin (cello) and Pavel Souvandjiev (violin), Hartwin surrounds himself with two talented and extremely creative musicians who are not averse to combining elements from different styles with each other.

Flavia Escartin is half Spanish, half Belgian, and grew up in Catalonia. Trained in classical music and later in jazz in Amsterdam, she is active in diverse projects, from circus music to film scores. Together with her sister Laia, she forms the internationally touring Escarteen SistersPavel Souvandjiev, half Bulgarian, half Belgian, draws inspiration from Balkan music and regularly travels to Bulgaria to compose. Based in Ghent, he founded Aerokorda, a trio celebrated across Europe for its energetic blend of Celtic and Balkan influences.

The trio’s music is a sort of tightrope dance between classical, folk, and world music orchestrated by three outspoken characters who constantly challenge and complement each other musically. The recognizability of Hartwin’s melodies, combined with the driving and surprising arrangements by Flavia & Pavel, form a dazzling play of sounds you can discover live during a concert by this ‘atypical’ trio.

The trio recently released their new album This Is the Place, which they now present at Fiddlers on the Move!
